Time For Some PC Upgrading, Part III

Thinking back, I don’t recall experiencing that many smooth hardware upgrades. Even when everything worked, I was nervous about messing something up or having to redo things. This fear is one reason why I don’t shut the cover on the console until after I’m done and I turn on the unit to confirm that everything works as expected.

As I struggled playing FarCry 5, my son matter-of-factly asked, “Dad, you bought all that stuff for your computer. Why don’t you install it already?”

Time For Some PC Upgrading, Part I

I was excited to play the new Ubisoft game, FarCry 5. I’ve been a FarCry fan for a while so the latest rendition was definitely in my sights. Yet, when I finally downloaded and ran the game, I noticed my 3-year-old PC lacked the toned hardware muscles to make the game really shine.

Ten Hours Without Internet

When I upgraded my Internet recently, I received a new modem. It was flakey, so I exchanged it. We’ve had good service since then and I’m quite pleased. Now when the modem goes from three happy lights to one sad and one blinking light, I know it’s the cable service and not the device to blame.

Stop the Boop-De-Doop

It’s something you hear when you connect a thumb drive. It’s something you puzzle about when the noise happens randomly. It’s the boo-doop, which is what I call the default sound that plays in Windows when a new devices is added.

“Hello, Tech Support?”

Filed under: Main — Tags: — admin @ 12:01 am

Terrible computer manuals are how I started my career. I knew I could do a better job, and I did. And today, while computer books are barely hanging on, the manual is a thing of the past. No one even considers “the manual” when they refer to technology. Is tech support next?
