Sorry That I Missed Your Email

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

I recently updated my new Macintosh to the latest OS X operating system, codename El Capitan. That experience is something I’ll write about later. Until then, I’ll let you know how I completely deleted all my email.

Google Docs to the Rescue

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

My son needed to write a college paper, one that had special formatting. So he asked me a Microsoft Word question on formatting a numbered list. I told him the answer, but the suggestion didn’t work. Turns out he wasn’t using Microsoft Word at all.

A Dialup Modem Answers the Phone

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

Back in the 1980s, I paid the extra money to have two phone lines installed in my apartment. Both apartments: I outgrew my single bedroom apartment, where the computer sat in the living room. The second apartment had a second bedroom, which became my office.

The first line was for me. The second line was for the computer. Specifically, it was for the computer’s modem.

Is the Network Down?

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

Man, this web page is taking a while to load. The spiny thing is going backwards still, which probably means the Internet is down? Is it? Or is the network slow when the spiny thing goes forwards?

There will Never be ‘Word Lite’

Filed under: Main — Tags: — admin @ 12:01 am

Hamburger? Club Sandwich? What is it?

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

You’ve seen it, I know you have. It’s an icon. It could indicate a hidden menu drawer, pop-out thingie, or it could be the place you click the mouse to drag a shutter. The usage is inconsistent and so is the name. What is it?

Keeping Lists

Filed under: Main — Tags: — admin @ 12:01 am

For those times when my brain becomes too crowded or too unreliable, I use an app. No, it’s not the Boost Your Brain app, which sounds sketchy. No, I’m referring to a simple notepad app.

Old Files on a New Computer

Filed under: Main — Tags: — admin @ 12:01 am

One of the things I dread about getting a new computer is the inevitable personality transfer. Yes, the new PC is faster and better than your old clunker (which last week was your treasure and joy). The dreadful part is how to get the files and programs you love transferred from the old computer to the new one.

The New Mac

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

I dearly wish computers would last forever. They can! I’ve had a PC run well for 11 years. Ming the Merciless. He was a great system, but eventually the software grew incompatible, and I had to buy a new PC.
