Shoving a picture into a word processing document isn’t anything new. Even the text-based word processors of the late 1980s could accomplish the feat, albeit rather crudely and not in a manner anyone called “delicious.”

July 1, 2016Format Your ParagraphsForget all the fancy graphics and other whatnot. A document consists of paragraphs, one after the other, flowing down the page. How you format those paragraphs is important. To perform that job, you have two choices.

June 24, 2016More Fill-In-The-Blanks for WordOne of my most popular YouTube videos explains how to create a fill-in-the-blanks item in Word. The technique demonstrates how to add a blank line to a document, but it really works best only when you’re printing a document. For adding a fill-in-the-blanks item in a document electronically, you need to use something called a Content Control.

June 1, 2016In-Context Document ProofingDear Microsoft, I see that you continue to upgrade Office and improve the various features of Word, Excel, and others. May 18, 2016Make Your Own GradientsWhile exploring the possibilities of the various object-fill color commands in Word, I stumbled across a most amazing tool: the gradient. You can use Word to create and apply gradient colors to objects, text, and a host of interesting items. That’s neat, but what the heck is a gradient?

April 18, 2016Resetting the Default Font in WordI get this question often and it surprises me that I’ve not written a blog post about it: How do you change the default font in Word? March 9, 2016Scanning Text into a Word DocumentA scanner is just a flat-surface camera. It reads only images. To pull text off a page, and eventually get that text into a Word document, you must manipulate the scanned image. The software to carry out that task is called Optical Character Recognition software, OCR for short. March 7, 2016Scanning DocumentsYears ago, few PC users bothered with a scanner. It was a separate device you had to purchase, and unless you were scanning photos for artwork or working in a legal office, you probably didn’t need one. Today, most computer printers also pull duty as copiers, fax machines, and scanners. Scanning is something available to anyone. |
