Power Strip Insanity

Filed under: Main — Tags: — admin @ 12:01 am

Power strips are pretty common. Not only do I have them in my office, but the HDTV has one. Even the kitchen TV has a power strip. And they’re not just those boxy sticks with a row of plugs on them. Power strips can be quite complicated, which makes the choosing and buying process frustrating.

Replacing the Graphics Card

As I predicted in the last blog post, my son’s PC received a new graphics adapter. Unlike the old one, this newer model featured 2GB of graphics memory. It also sports two fans, and to us that feature was appealing because we figured the issue was the system overheating. We were wrong.

Replacing a Power Supply

After two days, a new 500W power supply was delivered to my abode. My son and I took no time to install the beast into his PC. Filed under: Main — Tags: , — admin @ 12:01 am

Filed under: Main — Tags: — admin @ 12:01 am

Inside your PC’s bosom glows hot a fast electrical machine. Its billions of wires, transistors, and relays produce the fun, gooey nonsense you see on the screen. You should take it all for granted. I’m not joking: The processor is only a small piece of the PC puzzle, but one that has a notable history that I shall now bore you with the details.

Throwaway Filenames

Filed under: Main — Tags: — admin @ 12:01 am

The most common filename on my computer’s mass storage device is . . . killme. That’s not a very inspiring name, but it does showcase a common computer file management phenomena: The names of unwanted or temporary files.

The New Beep Sound

Filed under: Main — Tags: — admin @ 12:01 am

O, I love customizing things. I enjoy that technology permits the user to change some items, such as the background on a phone or computer, or to change sound. Way back when, these capabilities were explored by lots of people. Today, seriously, does anyone bother changing the default sounds in Windows?

On All The Time

Filed under: Main — Tags: — admin @ 12:01 am

Should you leave your computer on all the time? Isn’t that a waste of energy? Sure it is, but that doesn’t deter people such as myself from leaving their PCs on 24/7.
