It seems weird, but taking a screenshot, making an image file of what you see on your mobile device’s screen, is something many people want to do. So many, in fact, that a default method exists to snap a quick screenshot on any Android.

Your PC has Many Fans

The last quiet computer I owned was my TRS-80 Model 4P. Since then, all my PCs make noise — and not just from the speakers. Modern computers have fans to help keep them cool. A typical PC can have up to four of them or more.

Chrome to Squish Obnoxious Web Advertising

The next version of Chrome will do something you really want: It will suppress what Google has defined as obnoxious online ads. This list includes advertising videos that automatically play, pop-ups that block most of the screen, and other annoyances. Coincidentally, Google obtains the bulk of its revenue through online ads. I suppose a relationship doesn’t exist between the two items.

My Week at Lynda

I’ve been visiting the Lynda campus for about four years now. It’s such an amazing place with smart, energetic people. Going there is like visiting a resort, though it’s work. And I suppose when work is fun, you’ve found the best thing to do.

My Own Illustrator

I showed a picture my generic Android phone to a colleague. He remarked how nice it looked and asked where I got it. “I made it,” I replied. He was impressed. That got me thinking about how I do graphics and illustrations for my books.

Screencasting Wars

It’s been a few years since we cut the cable. Now I have several choices for my viewing pleasure. I have my computer, my tablet, and my phone. I have a Nexus Player box on the Big TV. I can also screencast from my Android devices as well as my PCs. Because our TVs have Chromecast dongles attached, I can cast to any screen that’s active — but so can any other user on the network.
