Turns out that one of the clock faces you can use in an Apple clock app wasn’t that unique. How not unique? Well, not unique to the tune that Apple had to pay $21,000,000 to the design’s owner.

November 1, 2012Nexus 7 Sells Like HellApparently the Nexus 7 tablet has some good sales figures, up to one million units a month. I don’t know whether that makes it the second-most popular tablet after the iPad or not. That’s because Samsung doesn’t release sales figures, so I don’t know where the Galaxy Tab sits. But one million units a month isn’t bad.

October 29, 2012Cellular Nexus 7 and the Nexus 10 are HereToday Google introduced an updated version of the Nexus 7 tablet. The new version has cellular data access, though it’s sold “unlocked.” That means you have to find a cellular provider to give you access. A 32GB model was also introduced. The Nexus 10 looks like it’s going to be one hell of a tablet. It’s not cellular, but it has an über-high-resolution display, 300 ppi. That compares with the iPad’s 264 ppi. Golly!

October 23, 2012Apple’s Fusion DriveBeyond the iPad mini, today Apple announced a new hybrid SSD and HDD called the Fusion drive. Apparently it uses basic Hard Disk drive (HDD) technology bolstered with Solid State drive (SSD) technology. Don’t know how that would work. Based on my knowledge (and personal experience in) computer history, it sounds like a fad. It’s seems like a half-step between traditional hard drives and the SSDs of tomorrow. Other famous half-steps: • Expanded Memory in DOS. • Stacker and Double Space to expand hard drive storage • TSRs or memory-resident programs Oh, the list goes on. October 19, 2012Google Gone? The article says that Google may disappear in a few years. Poppycock. But one thing worth picking up, is that ad revenue from mobile devices is increasing. As I’ve long predicted, there will be a massive shift from desktop computers to mobile devices over the next few years. So in five years, Google may not be gone, but a majority of people will be using it on tablets and cell phones, not computers.
