Because Apple is making the comparison, Droid Life decided to take a hard look at the true differences between the two dinky-tabs:

Doing a Manual Backup Automatically, Part II

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

Assuming that you’ve read Monday’s blog post, you have a thumb drive that can handle a manual copy, or backup, of some important files. This blog post describes the DOS command used to actually copy over those files.

Apple’s Fusion Drive

Filed under: News — admin @ 2:44 pm

Beyond the iPad mini, today Apple announced a new hybrid SSD and HDD called the Fusion drive. Apparently it uses basic Hard Disk drive (HDD) technology bolstered with Solid State drive (SSD) technology. Don’t know how that would work.

Based on my knowledge (and personal experience in) computer history, it sounds like a fad. It’s seems like a half-step between traditional hard drives and the SSDs of tomorrow.

Other famous half-steps:

• Expanded Memory in DOS.

• Stacker and Double Space to expand hard drive storage

• TSRs or memory-resident programs

Oh, the list goes on.

So in five years, Google may not be gone, but a majority of people will be using it on tablets and cell phones, not computers.

In 2002 I divorced and moved out of my house. The new house needed an office, and the home I finally bought featured a single-car garage that had been converted into an office for the previous owner. Perfect.

My Office, Through the Years

What is an “office?” Is it a building off somewhere, or perhaps that spare bedroom? Or maybe it’s the spot on your coffee table where you sit with a laptop and pretend to work while you watch TV?

I Remember Assembly Language, Part II

Filed under: Main — Tags: — admin @ 12:01 am

Assembly language runs fast. Assembly language produces small programs. But Assembly language takes nearly forever to write. That’s because you pretty much have to do everything from scratch.
