My trip down memory lane last week, with my foray into the DOSBox program to retrieve an old WordPerfect document, made me think about my typical DOS computer set up. It especially reminded me of all the utilities I used to make life bearable in that stark, command line environment.

August 14, 2013Hold This, Please I like Android smartphones, but I also like the toys that come with them. I frequently buy the docking station and the car mount whenever I get a new phone. The thing I don’t like, however, is paying the super premium prices the Phone Store charges for those toys. The solution is to go rogue and buy something that works, but doesn’t cost you a day’s wages.

August 2, 2013Yes, Virginia, There is an AppData FolderAs a computer user, you’re probably adult enough to understand that lots of hidden goodies dwell behind the operating system’s delicious visual interface. Most of those goodies are things you probably don’t want to mess with, but because Windows isn’t the most complete, well-thought-out operating system, the need to go digital spelunking is often necessary.

August 1, 2013Google Calendar UpdateA very minor update to Google Calendar has been released. It doesn’t change the look of the calendar, but it does fix an annoying issue: Events dismissed on one device are dismissed on all devices accessing the Calendar. So if you get a notice on your phone and dismiss it, you won’t see the same notification on your tablet or PC. Nice.
