Gizmos From The Past

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

I suppose I’ve always been a gadget freak. Now that smartphone and tablets are here, the need to carry several distinct gizmos no longer exists. The old gizmos I once carried, however, are still lingering in the boneyard. Come have a peek!

Banned In Vegas

Filed under: News — admin @ 8:22 am

The list of places that are banning Google Glass is growing! The latest addition are Las Vegas casinos, which seems obvious to me. The potential for cheating with the devices is astronomical!

I received an inquiry as to whether I’d be interested in writing a book on Google Glass. For moral reasons, I objected. The devices will not be cheap, which means I don’t think a For Dummies title would sell very well (although I’ve been wrong on that before). Google Glass is just creepy.

In all my years of watching the technology field, I’ve never seen anything so controversial — the gizmo hasn’t even been released to the general public yet.

That is, unless you get a kid-safe mobile app.

And what of Windows 8? It’s at 3.82% of the market, barely above Mac OS X 10.8 and well below Windows Vista.

Quite a few Android phones now feature NFC, or Near Field Communications. That technology is employed as a feature called Android Beam. It’s über handy. Well, for most things it’s über handy.

Why Obama?

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

Recently a reader sent me an email regarding one of the images in my books. I was admonished not to let my personal politics into my books as it may deter future customers. I wholly agree!

Some Videos

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

A few months back, I went to the For Dummies mothership in Indiana. I met with staff and got to meet face-to-face with my Favorite Acquisitions Editor In The Whole Wide World, as well as meet my Dream Team in editorial, Mark and Becky. I also shot some videos.
