I admire the Slate’s speed, but it still seems to sport a clunky Windows interface. For some reason, that doesn’t seem to go with the touchscreen paradigm. Whatever.

Microsoft Losing Ground to Apple on Campus

Lots of interesting stats (and graphs!) from the University of Virginia regarding students and their computer use. All students, 100 percent, now have computers at school. Nearly all those computers are laptops. Nearly half of them are Apple laptops.

Where have all the recovery discs gone?

Once upon a time, you received a Windows installation disc with your new PC. Then it became a “recovery” disc. Now you get nothing, though there may be a recovery partition on the hard drive. What good is that when the hard drive goes kablooey?

The Android phone operating system is rapidly gaining ground, thrashing just about every other phone OS on the market. I agree: Android presents a logical way to operate a cell phone. As these gizmos rapidly replace low-end computers for most people, things are looking good for Google and Android.
