I think the headline says it all:
Kremlin returns to typewriters to avoid computer leaks.
How long has it been since you’ve used a typewriter, if ever?

July 8, 2013Zettabytes of CrapThe furor over infamous whistleblower Edward Snowden continues, but yet the media misses the point entirely: Snowden isn’t the bad guy. The U.S. Government is the bad guy for illegally spying on its own citizens. Snowden merely pointed it out, but he’s not the guilty party.

July 5, 2013When a Byte is not a ByteIt’s with great pride that you bring home that 3TB hard drive. It’s awesome! Three trillion bytes of storage, who could imagine? Then you install the thing and, lo and behold, the operating system reports 2.54TB are available. Huh?

July 1, 2013Windows 8 Beats Windows VistaWhen it comes to Market Share, Windows 8 comes out on top! Well, it comes out on top of Windows Vista, which isn’t saying much. That’s because prior to Windows 8, Windows Vista was universally heralded as the suckiest version of Windows. Although, I always thought that honor belonged to Windows ME. Anyone remember Windows ME? The kings of Windows versions, at least according to the article (below), remain Windows 7 at 44% of the market and, yes, good ol’ Windows XP at 37%. Gotta love that Windows XP!

When the Rug Gets PulledGoogle search is free! The Chrome browser is free! Facebook is free! Gmail is free! Cloud services are free! Can you stand all the freedom? June 28, 2013Clean Up Your Desktop!I’m referring to your computer’s desktop, not that messy thing awash with papers and Post-It Notes™. You should make it a regular task: Checking out all those itty bitty icons to see which can be banished and which should remain.

June 27, 2013The Computer I Lusted For 30 Years AgoWhile I wanted an Apple II+, the movie WarGames made me desire Matthew Broderick’s tricked-out IMSAI 8080. It was so advanced, I knew I couldn’t afford it. I mean, the whole system probably cost $6,000 back then with all the bells and whistles. The guy who supplied the IMSAI to the film as a prop is trying to sell it now. He’s looking at an auction house and the figure mentioned in the article (below) is $25,000. I know I don’t need it, but it’s still something to behold: The original computer that made hacker a household term.

June 26, 2013Windows 8.1 PreviewThe Start button is back! Yeah! But it just coughs up the Metro interface, the Start screen. So Microsoft apparently still doesn’t get it: Users wanted the Start button back to get the Start menu back. I’m not sure whether this Windows 8.1 release requires me to update my Windows 8 Sucks book or not. I’ll find out soon enough whether Windows 8.1 sucks enough to warrant a new book. |
