From the Guardian‘s John Naughton, and I heartily agree: Apple is turning into a nightmare. It’s going to take a while before “the folks” recognize it. In fact, I would guess that the anti-Apple backlash won’t be for a few years now. But it’s coming.

February 26, 2011Whack-A-Mole Software Sabotage!Wanting to stay relevant, the guy who programmed the popular Whack-a-Mole game wrote code into the program that causes the game to fail at a given interval. This is a common trick for many programmers: They write code so that the system will fail. I’ve seen that technique used many times, mostly to ensure that the programmer gets their final payment. But to consistently program something to fail is a con game. Glad this guy got caught.

February 25, 2011The Most Irritating Error EverEarlier this week one of my computers refused to print. The error was that the Spooler Service had stopped. Not a single printer was recognized. No new printer could be installed. The Spooler Service would stop and stop and stop and nothing could print. Ever. February 23, 2011ApplesauceApple’s stock has taken a dive recently. There’s been no bad news from the company. To the contrary, according to their most recent financial reports, they’re one of the best-performing corporations on the planet. What’s driving the dive are rumosr and fear.
