Bill Murray as Phil Connors in 1993’s Groundhog Day.
February 2 is Groundhog Day in the US. It’s the midpoint of winter. Seasonally, winter is only 6 weeks old, but because winter weather can start in mid-November, at this point of the year most people are really sick of the cold, wet, snow, and ice. Microsoft updates its Office suite every so often. You may see the Office Update request appear — or not. I have the Office 365 subscription, so I’m guessing that my software might get updated more frequently than an off-the-shelf Office purchase. In any event, I noticed a change recently to how Word impliments the document proofing check.

It’s been years since Microsoft last released MS-DOS; I believe version 6.22 in 1993 was the final standalone version. Microsoft dropped all support for DOS quite some time ago. Still, Windows versions 95, 98, and ME were based on DOS. Even after those versions, the command prompt lingered on in Windows as the CMD.EXE program. Now that remnant about to vanish.
