And Now, This Unwanted Message

SamsungTV

The evil geniuses at Samsung (with the emphasis on evil) have devised a way to slip a commercial into your streaming content video. This intrusion happens without any support from the streaming app. Yes, it’s pure evil, and it’s something Samsung needs to explain.

I predict that the new TV paradigm is streaming content not broadcast. TVs are becoming Internet devices, which use apps to view content. Those apps offer a service, sometimes a subscribed service, and for that premium you expect what’s promised. Then along comes Samsung and thrusts a commercial into the content.

This intrusion is obnoxious. I tell you, it would cause me to return my Samsung TV and get my money back, pronto.

Samsung makes good gizmos. I enjoy their tablets and phones. They have their own take on things, however, when it comes to software. In that respect, Samsung is rather erratic. Tools, toys, and techniques come and go and often disappear.

For years I’ve lamented how I purchased movies on the Samsung Video Hub only to lose that content because Samsung got rid of the Hub. (First they disabled my password, and then they just stopped producing the app.)

I won’t write about the Samsung “Content Home” screen on Android devices because my guess is that Samsung will drop that weird feature with the next hardware lineup.

My advice to Samsung phone and tablet users is to avoid any Samsung specific apps. Don’t get a Samsung user account. Don’t use Kies if you can avoid it. And now, sadly, I might have to add that you just don’t use Samsung stuff at all, especially if they keep up with this rude intrusion into streaming content.
