Android Email Solutions

One of the poorest things Android does is Email. First, Google’s Gmail is split off from the main Email program, which makes collecting and organizing all your email in one app an opaque task. Even within the Email app, weaknesses appear.

For example, I read email on my Android devices. I do not send it. That’s because the send ability is unreliable. I’m not alone.

Lots of people send me messages, asking for help getting Android email to work. Accounts don’t sync. Contacts aren’t transferred. Messages don’t send or can’t be received. And connection or authenticity errors abound.

Here’s my advice:

First, if you’re using an ISP email service, check with the ISP to ensure that you’re using the right settings on your Android.

For example, search on Google for your ISP’s name followed by Android Email, such as typing Comcast Android Email.

If you’re unlucky, you’ll see a bunch of technical info. You’ll need to confirm those settings on your Android mobile device by following these steps:

  1. Open the Email app.
  2. Tap the app icon to view the navigation drawer.
  3. Swipe to the bottom of the navigation drawer and choose Settings.
  4. Choose an Email account.
  5. Choose Incoming Settings to ensure that everything is as your ISP specifies.
  6. Choose Outgoing Settings to do the same.

If you’re lucky, then you’ll find an email app you can install. Do so! Using that app is far, far better than fumbling with the Android Email app. Yes, even though it means you need to use more apps to hunt down your messages, that’s the best way to do it.

For AOL, get the AOL email app .

For Yahoo Mail, get the Yahoo Mail app .

Comcast features the XFINITY Connect mail app .

On the horizon is Google’s Inbox app. You can obtain a copy of the app, but you can’t use it unless you get an Inbox invite. (This scenario reminds me of the early days of Gmail.) I don’t have an invite yet, so I don’t know what Inbox does. I hope that it’s the all-in-one email solution Android users need. That would be a blessing.
