I Think They’ve Finally Figured Out Apple

Filed under: News — admin @ 9:29 am

As an Apple human myself, I’ve experienced the angst of getting the cool, envy-inducing new Apple gizmo, paying a premium price for it, showing it off, then having the better, jealousy-inducing upgrade pop up a few months later. I hate it. So do most people.

From the article (linked below):

The writer of this piece essentially said that while he likes the iPad Mini a lot, he is passing on this first edition and will wait for the next iteration because he expects improved technology and features.

Maybe word has gotten out? Could that explain why Apple’s stock price has dropped 20 percent from its all-time high?

  1. Apple has always been about Steve Jobs vision ever since they got past the Apple II and started with the Lisa and Mac. Without Jobs Apple is a shell company selling a memories. Thats what happened when Jobs left Apple during the Scully fallout, Apple did well for a few years and then started to slide down till it was literally ready to shutdown withing a month from when Jobs came back. Apple can only get away with repackaging their products in different sizes for so long and then they will be forced to come up with new products that will change the look and image of the company and that will break the spell that Apple has over its customers.

  2. The stock is down 25% from its peak. I was going to post that article as well, but meh. Apple still makes cool stuff. What could turn the stock around is another innovative idea in the post-Jobs era.

Dan- Lets be clear about this. The whole Apple business model revolves around selling new hardware to ALL its customers every 4 or 5 years to replace their previous Apple hardware. If they cant maintain that cycle, then Apples bottom line is going to continue to slide. Jobs wisely made Apple a hardware company because he knew he did not stand a chance by selling just software due to piracy and marketshare against MS. But only someone like Jobs can get away with such a business model and make something like a aluminum unibody laptop a must-have device. If Sony had released an aluminum unibody before Apple did, it would have been another hoe-hum product. Dont get me wrong, Jobs is a brilliant innovator, but he is also a talented snake oil salesman. Most of the touchscreen technology of the iPhone existed before the iPhone came out. But only Jobs could put together the whole experience of glitzy apps and turn the smartphone into a life-interface that people have to have. So what Im saying is that without Jobs showmanship, good products are not enough. And I cant see anyone at Apple to maintain Jobs level of vision and innovation.
