“A great tablet is better than a cheap PC”

Filed under: News — admin @ 8:07 am

The well-put title of this post came from the CEO of Nvidia, makers of PC graphics chips. He’s correct: For many people there is no more need to use a PC. If you’re set on email, the web, Facebook, and maybe a game or two, then you not only save money by getting a good tablet, you’re one-up on the technological leading edge.

  1. If by tablet, that also includes built-in keyboards and touchpad (which would make it an ARM-powered netbook), then yes, I would agree that mobile ARM powered devices are going to shut out the intel x86 dominance of the computer in order to give more battery life. But if youre talking touchscreen only interface, Id say no way. Touchscreen is fine when you just have to make quick checks of messages or internet sites on a phone or tablet. But if I had to do all my typing on a touchscreen keyboard and use a touchscreen interface for all apps, that would be torture. I say that from experience, when I was in SanFran I had to buy a ticket online, I only had an hour of internet time at the cafe. Trying to use a complicated interface of an airline ticket site on my 7″ tablet was was an experience that almost drove me insane. I promise I will never travel without a netbook again.
