Wow. Microsoft is going all tablet-y with their user interface on Windows 8. Prepared to be confused!

  1. I was hoping for a little sneak demo video… oh well will have to wait, I’ve seen the UI it looks a lot like windows phone 7, one thing I will be interested in is that you can watch a video or read the news at the same time as using a social network like facebook fitting them neatly onto the same screen, that will be useful there are many times I’ve been watching something only to get a beep saying someone has messaged me.

  2. That’s an interesting point: Mobile devices are, for the most part, single-tasking gizmos. Sure, they “multitask,” but not like on a desktop where I can play a YouTube video in one window while I’m reading email in another. If Windows 8 imitates the single-tasking mobile interface, then how would such an operation be possible? Will multi-window people such as myself be satisfied with such an approach?

  3. Seems everyone wants to push a mobile UI on the desktop these days. Apple with Lion, Microsoft with the Immersive Shell in Windows 8 and even Ubuntu is using Unity as its default shell, which seems more tablet-oriented than desktop-oriented.
