The Beginning of the End of the Internet

Filed under: News — admin @ 11:41 am

The US Government is going to be regulating the Internet. It starts slowly. It seems innocent and good. But there has never been anything that the Government touched that hasn’t turned to crap. Things will get worse from here. Mark my words.

  1. Come on, Government programs aren’t that bad. I mean look at the Post Office, they only lost 6 billion last year, not too bad. And Social Security and Public schools are doing great too!

  2. I was trying to think of a few exceptions when I wrote that broad-based generality. The problem isn’t with the programs’ intent, but rather with the mixed results. Social Security has good intentions, but my observation is that it makes more people nervous and uncertain than it does anything else. NASA does positive things, but it’s difficult for my Libertarian mind to justify the reason why government has to fund it.

  3. I completely agree. Although President Obama almost completely cut off government funding for NASA. Its almost a private company now.
Isn’t Social Security, by definition, a Ponzi Scheme? Using new investors’ money to pay off the older investors? I have nothing wrong with SS, but I thought that was kind of funny

  4. Also, you wouldn’t happen to listen to/watch Glenn Beck would you?
(I’m just guessing with you talking about being a Libertarian, I love Glenn Beck.

  5. SS shouldn’t be a Ponzi scheme because theoretically you should get out only what you put in. That scenario was blown right away because people live longer than was originally thought. So the first recipients of SS, who paid in the least, took out the most proportionally. You can’t keep that up forever, which is why it’s been called a Ponzi scheme.

Take a random group of people. Ask them whether they’re currently collecting Social Security. If they answer no, then ask them if they’d be willing to forgo collecting anything if they could get out of the system now. Everyone I’ve met answers YES to that question.

  6. I used to listen to Beck when he was on the radio. He was really funny. Since he got all weepy and into religious patriotism, I’ve not listened to him as much. I tried watching his TV show, but was really bored. It’s not that I dislike Beck, I’m just not into him as much any more.

For radio listening, I prefer Jerry Doyle. I think he’s more the type of Libertarian I am, but he’s not on everywhere.

  7. I don’t know if they do anything like this in the USA but in the UK, they have different broadband packages so for example I have just checked a comparison site and I have unlimited usage which is more expensive than some other IP providers. The cheapest one was a company I’ve never heard of called Primus with a 10 gb limit on their service for £4.99 per month. In the Uk the IP providers got into a bit of trouble recently for misleading consumers by saying ‘up to’ 20 mb for example broadband. You are lucky to get 4 mbs to be honest. So I guess once you use up you limit that’s it until the next month. So you get what you pay for if you use say Netflix a lot you will want and much larger limit on your usage, than say someone who just uses email and internet. I don’t know if they play by the rules but in theory it works, if you want more you pay more.
