When it was first introduced, Windows 1.0 was laughed at, and for good reason.

  1. I still have a REALLY old laptop with Windows 3.1 on it. It has 56k of RAM, and I believe something like a 100MB hard drive.
I still use it because its still pretty fun to mess with.

  2. 56K of RAM? I think the minimum on a PC is 64K. When I was running Windows 3.1, my systems generally had between 2MB and 4MB of RAM.

  4. I think the first time I saw a windows program was probably 3.1 I was a kid and I was messing around with a PC that had one of those green screens no colour, it was horrible to look at, I thought the mouse was cool, but as a kid I wasn’t impressed because there weren’t many games to play on it, those green screen were unbelievably horrible, they also had orange coloured ones which were slightly better.

  5. I saw Windows 1 running on a Tandy 2000. That was one of the rare non-PC compatible MS-DOS systems of the mid-1980s. It used the 80186 CPU. Microsoft coded Windows to run very fast on the Tandy 2000, and the graphics were really impressive for a system of that era.

  6. That’s in interesting thinking about my uncles computer (the one with the green screen) I have a feeling it may have been an Amstrad this would have been the early 1990’s I can remember seeing an MS DOS icon on the desktop as well as an email icon, and a recycle bin. The funny thing was it was much better than the ones we were using at school because they didn’t have windows and just MSDOS the best thing about those ones was Word star.

  7. 25 years of Windows: 5 years of being ignored, 17 years of blue screens 😀
I think I’ll go install Windows 1.01 on my IBM PS/2 now for the fun of it.
