It’s Cyber Monday

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

You’ve probably heard about Black Friday. It was last Friday (November 28). That’s the official starting day of the Christmas shopping season, when many stores finally turn a profit for the year (they go “into the black,” hence Black Friday). But what about Cyber Monday?

There is no official day Cyber Monday. It was a marketing term coined by shop.org to promote their business. Then again, shop.org claims that online retailers do experience a spike in business on the first Monday after Black Friday. Whatever.

The point I’m making for you is that there are many online retailers who “celebrate” Cyber Monday by offering a slew of discounts and deals.

Here is an PC World article on Cyber Monday, which describes some details as well as links to specific deals.

By the way, it’s news you might not have read in the news, but this past Black Friday was exceptionally good. Sales are reportedly up at least 3% over last year. That’s positive for the economy.

Then again, the mainstream media loves bad news — over and over again!. So, you probably didn’t see any TV reports or read anything in the newspaper about a potential turnaround in the economy. In fact, I’m reading that the news is now “sales are up, but will probably won’t last.” That begs the question why anyone pays attention to the mainstream media?
