Yeah, go ahead and post on Facebook that you’re going to be spending an evening out with your friends. These thieves are the exact reason why I think Facebook, and phone apps like Google Latitude, are such a bad idea.

A couple of years back in the UK the head of MI5 got in trouble because his wife posted photos of him and his whole family on holiday on Facebook. I think he may have had to resign over it, I suppose the big thing now is that for square thing for smart phones that means you can be tracked through Twitter.

Paris Hilton is getting nailed on drug charges because of Twitter. She denied owning a purse she was carrying, saying it was a “friend’s purse.” So the cops dug through Twitter and found a tweet where she said that she loves her new purse.
Then again, Paris Hilton isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer.

It will be interesting in the future to see if Twitter will ever be used in a court case, has it could prove someone’s whereabouts.

They’re using phone data now to prove the Bad Guy’s location. Some idiot crooks take a picture of the crime scene using their phone. Because GPS information is included in the picture, the cops use it – successfully – to nail them.
So despite technological advances, crooks are still basically idiots.
