Thoughts on Net Neutrality

Like many controversial issues, it’s difficult to filter out the political noise from the reality. Since President Obama weighed in, the consensus is that if you’re Republican, you hate “net neutrality” and if your Democratic, you support it. Both positions are preposterous.

Computer Book Publishing, Part II

After the slaughter of 1982, no big New York publishers would touch computer books. That job was left up to independent publishing houses. They thrived, of course. After all, the computer hobbyist of the day still wanted good information.

The Most Expensive Apple Product

A while back, I priced out the most expensive Apple product. It was the high-end Mac Pro, equipped with maximum storage and all the bells and whistles. The price tag was around $12,000. The current high-end Apple Product will probably be much, much smaller and more wearable than a Mac Pro.

A Geezer in the Industry of Babies

You know how it works: The tech industry is for the young. Imagine a Google employee and you picture someone well under 40-years-old, probably in their mid-20s. It’s not a myth, but the dark secret of the tech industry is that your services are no longer welcome — regardless of how well you code — after you reach a certain age.

Where Google Went Wrong

Google’s motto was once “Don’t be evil.” Or something like that. Back when Google wanted to be the fastest, briefest search engine. Remember when the Google search page was just a text box? Remember when Chrome was a super fast browser? Remember when Google’s philosophy wouldn’t require that you sign up for Google+ if you didn’t want to?

Upon rumination, I’ve decided to no longer call it the Robot Revolution. No, I’m now referring to the looming peril for humanity, when our silicon children turn on us, as the Robot Uprising. It shall be a Titanic-Olympic type of rebellion.
