Freedom Declared by the FAA

Filed under: News — admin @ 3:42 pm

This could be good news, or it could be bad news: Apparently the FAA has lifted is inflight, all-the-time ban on electronic devices.

While you still need to pay attention to the flight crew, it’s soon going to be perfectly okay to mess with your electronic gizmos at all times while you fly. You can clutch them in your hands during take off and landing, but probably won’t have to power them down.

The ban extends on using cellular devices to make phone calls and access the mobile data network. But using Bluetooth or keeping an iPod on while the flight takes off or lands is apparently okee doke.

Various airlines will implement the new rules at different times. Of course, I’ll need to update my books.

Finding Your Android’s Storage Hog

Filed under: Main — Tags: — admin @ 12:01 am

I’ve not seen it on any of my Android devices, but apparently there’s an error message. It reads, “Insufficient storage available.” That reminds me of the old MEM error message that appeared in Lotus 1-2-3.

Supposedly life is becoming more wireless. Not so! Granted, I’m more high tech than most, but looking around my office, I see things like the disasters shown on this page.

iOS 7 Makes People Vomit

Filed under: News — admin @ 8:14 am

Complaints abound that Apple’s latest mobile operating system is inducing vertigo and nausea in users, specifically its onscreen animations.

I’ve seen the upgrade on an iPad. The home screen icons shimmy left and right as you turn the tablet. It’s an interesting 3D effect, but I can see how it would nauseate people. It’s probably the same sensation I feel with Samsung’s highly-annoying Whistle notification sound. Sheesh, talking about driving people nuts.

Stop The Killer Robots!

Filed under: News — admin @ 8:48 am

This post’s title is making light of what I think is an important issue: As technology leaps forward, when will mankind retain the wisdom not to empower non-living things with sentient abilities, such as to discern what to kill?

Autonomous killer robots are real. More are coming every day. The technology to create these things isn’t the issue. As with all technology, the relevant question isn’t whether we can do a thing but do we need to do a thing?

I know I joke about the robot apocalypse. I hope you chuckle every time you read it, but it’s a very serious possibility.

GOOG 1000

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

Google’s stock poked above $1000/share last week as its advertising revenue peaked. Wall Street’s reaction was a little insane, which isn’t news, of course. But pumping up a $900 stock to $1000 does seem to pique curiosity and interest.

Google Stock Hits $1000

Filed under: News — admin @ 10:40 am

Holy Smokes! Google’s stock (GOOG) just jumped up 10% today to leapfrog over the $1000 mark. It’s one of a handful of stocks to reach that goal.

GOOG was introduced at $100 a share many moons ago. It’s never looked back.

Today’s jump reflects positive ad click sales. And it’s driving up the Wambooli Tech Stock Index something fierce.

They could be evil. They could be sloppily dressed. They may hang with a group, but most likely they’re loners. They are the famous nerds of television and film. No matter what the show, live or animated, sit them down in front of a computer and they’ll know exactly what to do.
