Can Apple Keep Up?

Filed under: News — admin @ 6:13 pm

A good review and perspective from the Financial Times (below). I’m enthusiastic for the future Apple. The time to be worried is three years from now when the products are old and boring.

Verizon to Charge $2 for “Convenience Billing”

Filed under: News — admin @ 10:11 am

I’ll have to research this issue further: My cell phone bills are paid automatically online. If the Big V wants to charge me $2 for that service, then I can once again resort to having them send me the bill via snail mail. Given the size of my account, and the number of pages for each line, I don’t think that will save them any money. Still, it will be more convenient for me not having to pay $2/month for online billing.

Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.

The average size of the most popular web sites is rapidly approaching 1MB per page. That’s huge. No wonder it takes so long to load some pages.

The problem is compounded when you consider the popularity of mobile devices. Loading up a 1MB web page on your cell phone, for example, could be 0.5% of your monthly data allowance. Visit that site a few times per day, every day a month, and you can see how web page bloat would become an issue.

Yeah, I’m a tad bit late with a shopping recommendation, seeing how Christmas is just a few days away. I didn’t do a Christmas shopping list this year, though if I did, I would have had this to say about getting yourself an eBook-reading gizmo:

Apparently, the thieves are more interested in snatching up an iPhone over your beloved Android phone — or even the once prized Blackberry.
