Android Owns the Market, Apple Owns Your Wallet

Filed under: News — admin @ 5:03 pm

Android, which isn’t a brand but an operating system, runs on 81 percent of the smartphones sold today. Even so, Apple is rolling in the cash. The message?

I Must Love Google Too Much

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

I call it “Hate Mail,” but it’s not really that. It’s more of people who exert their frustrations out on me, probably because I’m the only person to reply to their emails. Over the years the Hate Mail has decreased, until just a few weeks ago.

Wi-Fi Password Mania

Out of curiosity, I whipped out my phone while walking through my neighborhood. I opened the Wifi Analyzer app just to see how many Wi-Fi networks were in range. I was shocked at the results.

They’re starting to appear. They’re unexpected. They’re revolutionary, which is surprising because they’re not from Apple, Not yet, anyway.

Samsung Galaxy Note 12.2

Filed under: News — admin @ 4:12 pm

No, the 12.2 isn’t a version number, it’s the size. As I predicted a while back, larger tablets are coming. The Galaxy Note 12.2, due to arrive early next year, will probably be the first — and definitely not the largest.

That’s It! I’m Switching to Linux!

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

linux It sounds good to say, but how practical is it? Obviously Windows 8 is completely fubar. I wouldn’t wish it upon an enemy. And Mac OS X keeps dribbling down the same trail; Apple is junking up a nice operating system with useless mobile features. Where does that leave someone who needs a computer? Which operating system is left?

Forging My Own Dock

Filed under: Main — Tags: — admin @ 12:01 am

I recently retired my original Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. It’s off to be repurposed via the Verizon Trade-in Program. Replacing it is a new Galaxy Note 10.1, but it doesn’t exactly fit into the original Tab’s docking station. That’s a problem for the Wambooli Space & Time Laboratories to solve!

Wambooli Birthmas

It was 17 years ago that I wrote the book Dan Gookin’s Web Wambooli. This website was created to be an online companion to that text. It has since morphed into a general support site for all my books.

Mankind’s Last Website

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

It’s possible to use a combination of human psychology, technology, and greed to create what would ultimately become the final website, the ultimate diversion, the most profitable company in history, and the end of human civilization, all at once.

Freedom Declared by the FAA

Filed under: News — admin @ 3:42 pm

This could be good news, or it could be bad news: Apparently the FAA has lifted is inflight, all-the-time ban on electronic devices.

While you still need to pay attention to the flight crew, it’s soon going to be perfectly okay to mess with your electronic gizmos at all times while you fly. You can clutch them in your hands during take off and landing, but probably won’t have to power them down.

The ban extends on using cellular devices to make phone calls and access the mobile data network. But using Bluetooth or keeping an iPod on while the flight takes off or lands is apparently okee doke.

Various airlines will implement the new rules at different times. Of course, I’ll need to update my books.
