I don’t know whether to be elated or sad. After several painful generations, Microsoft Office no longer has a Clipart Library.

December 2, 2014Chromebook More Popular than iPadThe battle rages! In this case, the turf is your local school. Trust me: Under the typical yuppie’s Christmas tree, you’ll find an iPad, not a Chromebook. In school, however, educators are enjoying the flexibility of the Chromebook over the iPad. November 28, 2014Netflix Poised for World DominationMaybe I’m exaggerating with that title, but the truth is that Netflix has become a force to be rekoned with as far as video content is concerned. Not only are they frequently mentioned in talk of “net neutrality,” but recently Netflix CEO Reed Hastings predicted that Broadcast TV will be dead by 2030. I agree. November 23, 2014A Square MonitorThe first monitors sported the same aspect ratio as a TV set. That made sense because the CRT was already being manufactured, so why pay to develop something new? And the format was accepted. But a square monitor? One with an aspect ratio 1:1? That’s weird! November 21, 2014PC on a StickHot dog on a stick. Corn on the cob on a stick. Even Twinkie on a stick. On a 4-hour, cross-country haul I forked over $10 (or something around there) so that I could enjoy the Internet aloft. Many airlines offer this service, but apparently there are some surcharges with some airlines that you really need to look out for! November 14, 2014Mechanical Keyboard ReviewI’m a proud keyboard snob, and I’m a big fan of the Das Keyboard line of (expensive) mechanical computer keyboards. Wired has reviewed the available lineup of mechanical keyboards, including some brands I’ve not heard of.

Heat Your Home with the CloudOne of the problems with cloud storage is the tremendous amount of heat that the servers generate. The problem can be solved if the providers borrow space in your home’s basement and use all that bonus radiant energy to keep your house toasty in the winter. No word on how that will turn your abode in a steaming inferno in the summer, however.
