Wamblog Update

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

This blog began when the old email newsletter, Weekly Wambooli Salad, faded. I had too many problems maintaining the list — including one lady who, rather than click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of each missive, decided to blacklist my server. Ugh.

It’s true! AOL users emailed me that they no longer received the newsletter. I contacted AOL and they said my site was blacklisted for sending SPAM. They gave me the email of the lady who reported it. Trust me, it wasn’t pretty dealing with her. Frustrated, I stopped the newsletter.

The blog blossomed in the newsletter’s place. It’s not as effective a form of communications because you’re relying upon a regular readership to show up and see what’s new. RSS feeds once handled news post alerts, but that technology faded.

Over time, I shifted from three weekly posts down to two. As the book industry dries up, and as computers become commonplace, I have fewer topics on which to write. Stuff is still going on, but blogs are dying as a form of communications.

Many people switched to video blogs or vlogs. I’ve stocked my YouTube channel with over 100 videos on Word, but that’s a lot of work with little return. Producing the videos is demanding on my schedule and right now I’m pretty busy with several topics.

All these items combined have led to a decision to forgo regular blog updates. From this week forward, I’ll be updating the Wamblog, just not on a regular schedule.

It’s my hope that this approach leads to more substantial posts. Sometimes I’ve struggled to make two posts a week because the tech industry isn’t really rolling like it once did. Things still happen, so I won’t shutter the blog completely. In fact, I’m waiting for some tech issues to be resolved before I write the next few posts. So the blog won’t die, but it won’t be updated frequently.

My guess is that no one will notice! I have a few loyal readers, but not enough to generate true traffic on the site. Please check back every week or so to see what’s new. And thank you for reading and enjoying the Wamblog for these ten years.

  1. I’m amazed you kept up for so long doing it…I seem to be the last hold out who reads it, or comments.

  2. Thank you, Glenn. I’ve received email from others who read, but never registered. The bots really killed the registration feature. It would have been nice to have regular comments.

Anyway, thank you for your comments over the years. The posts will still happen, just not on a regular schedule.
