Oh, I’m sure you want that Nexus 7 tablet, the one stocked with 16GB of internal storage. It’s the cat’s meow! But according to the ordering page at the Google Play Store, the delay is from six to seven weeks. That means your handy tablet won’t be getting there for Christmas! This is terrible!
November 30, 2012When You Wish Upon an AppThe Android Market, er, Google Play Store now has a Wish List feature. Though they call it “wishlist,” which is all one word, and it sounds very 21st Century, and it drives my spell checker nuts.

November 29, 2012Smartphones as Car ComputersI remember being jealous of all those cars that featured their own computers, little monitors in the dash. That looked so cool! As it turns out, the “cool” computer is a boat anchor. From the article (below), people keep their cell phones for two years, typically. They keep their computers for six. Cars? They keep those for 10 years. Having a computer in your car today could be like running a copy of Windows 98 on your desktop. Or something like that.

November 28, 2012Macintosh Meet AndroidAfter writing a kajillion books on using Android phones and tablets, I’d pretty much given up on the notion of file transfer between Android and the Macintosh. You can try. Sometimes it works. Most of the time, it doesn’t. That was until I finally discovered the Android File Transfer program. November 27, 2012Nexus 7 Android 4.2.1 Update Coming! The 4.2.1 update is apparently a minor update that fixes a date bug in the People app. The contents of my book are still up-to-date. Look at Some JunkThe amount of spam or junk mail (yes, that kind of junk) has really gone down over the past few years. Things should stay that way until the spammers figure out how to spam you on Facebook. Or have they already done that?

November 24, 2012The First Apple 1 Ever SoldThe article (below) shows some early pictures of the Apple 1 prototype, which was sold at the world’s first computer store, the Byte Shop, located in Mountain View, California. I never had an Apple 1, and I lusted for an Apple ][ computer. I finally obtained an Apple //c and then an Apple IIgs, but by then the Macintosh was the preferred Apple computer. It was a good run. November 23, 2012End of the MouseCould the famous, furless, ferocious computer pointing device be suddenly doomed? Apparently so. With all the touchscreen nonsense on smartphones, tablets, and now Windows 8, the world’s favorite computer pointing device may have a shortened lifespan, soon to join the floppy disk and the CD-ROM in the digital dumpster of destiny. I remember my first computer mouse. I still have the manual! (There’s a future blog post…) It was a Microsoft two-button mouse. It came with Microsoft Paint as well as a programming guide. Yep, those were the days! The most recent mouse I purchased was a Microsoft Bluetooth wireless mouse. Times do change.
