Perhaps None of This is Real

Filed under: News — admin @ 7:25 am

I’ve thought about this myself: What if our universe isn’t real, but is a computer simulation. Or what would approximate a computer simulation on a grand scale?

The question I would have if this existence where simulated, ala The Matrix, would be “What’s the point?”

Let me get philosophical: Are we here voluntarily or are we sentenced to life? Either way, the process somehow involves losing most, if not all, memory of any prior existence. Apparently that’s one of the rules and pretty much everyone abides by it.

And how can you determine whether or not you’re in a simulation when the only tools available to you are built inside the same construct? It would be like looking for a glitch in a game, an exploit. But not every exploit can be utilized to determine the external environment. Etc.

Oh, I could prattle on for hours on such a topic.

More Happy News on Microsoft’s Ballmer Departure

Filed under: News — admin @ 5:13 pm

From the article (link below):

Wall Street greeted word of Ballmer’s looming retirement with glee…

Missed opportunities. That’s what they call it. Microsoft has been playing catch-up and follow-the-leader ever since Ballmer took the reins from founder and former CEO Bill Gates.

Among the problems was a $900 million write-off related to poor sales of the Surface tablet computer, praised by reviewers but largely ignored by consumers. Microsoft has struggled as well with the rollout of the Windows Phone and its latest PC operating system, Windows 8.

When you’re in an elevator and you smell a fart, it’s pretty obvious who made it.

Microsoft Begins Its Turnaround

Filed under: News — admin @ 8:03 am

After years of floating aimlessly in the high tech ocean, Microsoft looks like it’s finally going to get some direction, add some innovation, and start using all the brain power they’ve hired. The main reason? CEO Steve Ballmer is retiring.

Thank the gods.

Facebook Flaw Oops

Filed under: News — admin @ 2:35 pm

Supposedly, Facebook dishes out $500 a pop when you report a security breach. That is unless you’re a Palestinian hacker who can only bring attention to the issue by breaking security and posting directly to Zuckerberg’s wall.

Google Calendar Update

Filed under: News — admin @ 8:08 am

A very minor update to Google Calendar has been released. It doesn’t change the look of the calendar, but it does fix an annoying issue: Events dismissed on one device are dismissed on all devices accessing the Calendar. So if you get a notice on your phone and dismiss it, you won’t see the same notification on your tablet or PC. Nice.

Microsoft has released an Office app for your Android device. That’s the good news!

The bad news is that you need an Office 365 subscription to make the app worthy. Office 365 has a free trial period, but after that you need to pay to edit your documents online.

Meet Your Robot Destroyer

Filed under: News — admin @ 8:55 am

Robotics is getting more Cylon-esque. This latest robot, shown in a video linked to below, looks pretty much like the one that will chase you through forests to hunt you down sometime around the year 2030. The Robot Apocalypse is well on its way.

The Return of the Typewriter

I think the headline says it all:

Kremlin returns to typewriters to avoid computer leaks.

How long has it been since you’ve used a typewriter, if ever?

Windows 8 Beats Windows Vista

Filed under: News — admin @ 6:42 am

When it comes to Market Share, Windows 8 comes out on top!

Well, it comes out on top of Windows Vista, which isn’t saying much. That’s because prior to Windows 8, Windows Vista was universally heralded as the suckiest version of Windows. Although, I always thought that honor belonged to Windows ME. Anyone remember Windows ME?

The kings of Windows versions, at least according to the article (below), remain Windows 7 at 44% of the market and, yes, good ol’ Windows XP at 37%. Gotta love that Windows XP!
