Oh Dear, Not April Fools Again

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

A year ago, I wrote about how much I dislike April Fools jokes, especially when computer news outfits pull the pranks. I don’t need to repeat my feelings again this year.

If you’re eager to find April Fools items on the web, I would first recommend that you visit Fark. They’ll probably do something April Foolsie, or at least have links to many April Fools sites.

It might be interesting to stop by Google’s main page to see whether they do anything special for April Fools regarding the Google logo. It’s kind of hit-or-miss whether they change their logo and for what occasion.

Then there’s talk out there about the April Fools Virus.

Come to think about it, it’s been a long time since the media has hyped up a major virus event. Anyone out there old enough to remember all the hullabaloo over the infamous Michelangelo Virus? That was back in the early 1990s and it had everyone freaked, even though computers were hardly in the mainstream. Still, that didn’t stop the media from frightening people. I remember little old ladies afraid that they would get sick just by looking at a computer. It was nuts.

The April Fools Virus is also known as the Conficker worm. Here is a link to Norton’s page telling you all about Conficker, what it does, and how to prevent it. Bottom line: if you stay current with your Windows Updates, odds are good you don’t have Conficker.

May your April Fools day be calm or riotous, whichever you prefer!
