When You Wish Upon an App

Filed under: Main — Tags: — admin @ 12:01 am

The Android Market, er, Google Play Store now has a Wish List feature. Though they call it “wishlist,” which is all one word, and it sounds very 21st Century, and it drives my spell checker nuts.

Just as you often wish for other items, such as new electronics, cars, or a replacement spouse, Google recognizes that you’ll probably want to lust after certain paid apps. You’ll find yourself dithering, “Should I really blow 99 cents on that game?”

Yep, that’s a tough decision.

Never mind that you don’t really care how much all those special ingredients cost for your cup of Starbucks coffee; 50 cents for an extra squirt of this, $1.20 for a Grande that. In fact, when you compare the cost of even the most expensive app to a cup of coffee, it helps put things in perspective. And remember, you’ll have the app with you for as along as you own an Android device. That coffee? It turns into pee before the day’s over.

When you find yourself wanting an app, but not deciding whether to pay for it, just touch the Wishlist tag, found at the top of the app’s descriptive screen. (The button’s icon is also shown at the top of this blog post.) The app is then tagged as something you desire.

To review the apps on your Wishlist, press the Menu button and choose the My Wishlist command. You can then peruse the list of apps you lust after, and choose one to once again ponder about buying it.

Remember: You can add only paid apps to the Wishlist. I know, it seems obvious, but I do occasionally find myself wanting to add a free app to the Wishlist. Call me silly.

To remove an app from the Wishlist, touch the Delete button on the far right side of its entry in your Wishlist. The Delete button sports the universal “no” icon. And you can also remove an app from the list by visiting its page again, and touching the Wishlist icon.
