No, neither Einstein nor Orwell wrote or said it. Their alleged-quotes are good and relevant, though someone has falsely attributed them to two well-known sources to help propagate their popularity.

\nHere’s Einstein’s quote:<\/p>\n

I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Scary quote! How could Einstein have foreseen it?<\/p>\n

He didn’t, of course. The quote does ring true, however, because technology is to the point where you need the same knowledge to run a computer as you do to pull the handle on a slot machine. All that power and potential is, well, wasted on people who rely upon that same technology to think for them. It’s sad.<\/p>\n

The following quote is attributed to George Orwell in Nineteen Eighty-Four<\/em>:<\/p>\n

The people will not revolt. They will not look up from their screens long enough to notice what\u2019s happening<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Orwell didn’t write that, other than the first sentence. The second sentence is similar to the theme from Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451<\/em>. That’s another frightening book about the future, one that I believe it a bit more relevant as it’s becoming more and more rare to find an actual printed book.<\/p>\n

Despite not being accurately attributed, these quotes make the rounds. I’m not sure whether they’ll change anything. Right now, mankind is seriously addicted to its devices with an enthusiasm that shuns any real attempts at insight or independent thought.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
