Internet radio isn’t dead. Well, one form of it is. I remember a while back when they tried to do “Internet radio.” That method bombed, but it didn’t signal the end of listening to stuff on the Internet with your PC.

\nIf you have iTunes, then you can use it to browse a whole buncha Internet radio stations. Just choose the Radio item from the Library list (on the left side of the iTunes window). You’ll see various categories listed. Open a category to find specific Internet radio stations, choose one, then enjoy listening.<\/p>\n

I’ve used the iTunes radio to listen to music while I work, which is nice because it’s not costing me money and a majority of the stations don’t play commercials. The variety is also very good.<\/p>\n

Better than the iTunes radio library is a web site called Pandora<\/a>. What makes Pandora unique is that you not only listen to radio, you become your own radio station program director.<\/p>\n

When you first visit Pandora, you’re invited to type in the name of an artist or type of music you enjoy. Pandora then plays a song, telling you a bit about the song and how the web site works. You can also judge the song, thumbs-up or thumbs-down. Based on your recommendations, Pandora further refines the music you listen to. Yep, it’s a lot like the Genius feature in iTunes, but it’s streaming music and not songs you have to purchase.<\/p>\n

Pandora also allows registration, so you can create your own music channels, called Stations<\/em>. You can customize each to specific whims, moods, or activities. So I have my Jazz channel, my happy music channel, and my annoying Show Tunes channel. You can even share the channels with others.<\/p>\n
