A one-stop-configuration shop. The bloggers call it GodMode.

It’s not really a secret because there is nothing you can do in GodMode that you can’t do in Windows by using other means. Also, GodMode isn’t a superuser account. It’s just a convenient shortcut.

Here is the GodMode window on my Windows 7 computer:

As you can see, it merely contains icons for various tasks you can do in Windows. It’s a shortcut treasure trove! Some have called it a Super Control Panel. And the geeks are drooling over the thing, mostly because Microsoft didn’t document it outright. Typical.

To get your own GodMode window, follow these steps:

Create a new folder in Windows 7. Just click the New Folder button in whichever folder window you want the GodMode Control Panel to appear.

Rename the file to:

GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Just copy and paste that filename above into the new folder’s name field. The first part,
GodMode
is the name of the folder. The second part — the gobbledegook — is what connects the folder’s contents to the GodMode Control Panel in Windows 7.

After renaming, the folder’s icon changes to the standard Control Panel icon, shown at the top of this post. When you open the folder, you’ll see Control Panel icons for just about everything in Windows. Lotsa lotsa icons. Have fun!
