Android Image Sync

Filed under: Main — Tags: — admin @ 12:01 am

Of all the ways of moving images back and forth between computer and phone or tablet, the easiest method is to use an image management program. It works just like synchronizing music. In fact, in Windows you use the same program for both activities: The Windows Media Player.

Hello, 911? Facebook is Down!

Filed under: News — admin @ 8:23 am

Last Friday saw a massive outage at Facebook, Inc. The service was absent from the information superhighway for a staggering three hours. Not knowing what to do or how to cope in a world without Friends, Likes, and obnoxious political views, throngs of Americans turned to the government for help: They dialed the public safety emergency number, 9-1-1.

Idiots.

They Love Twitter, but not the Ads

Filed under: News — admin @ 6:22 pm

I find it hilarious!

Twitter’s business model depends on selling ads. Those ads are visible mostly in the Twitter app but also on Twitter’s web page. Yet it seems that Twitter’s growth is coming from users who access the online service through third-party apps that don’t show the ads!

I still can’t figure out how these high-tech companies have a business model that relies upon online advertising. What is that they’re selling?

The SD Card Question

Filed under: News — Tags: — admin @ 7:09 am

Over at Droid-Life, their Wednesday question covers removable storage. Apparently Google was against Android devices with removable storage, but some manufacturers continue to add it.

I’m mixed on the topic. I like have expandable storage because, well, who likes running out? But I’ve never really used the MicroSD card to transfer files between devices. I’ve also lost info (photos and music) when a MicroSD card bit the dust.

Visit Droid-Life below to read the full article and take the quiz.

The Good Ol’ Computer Tune-Up

Taking your car in for a tune-up was one of those things everyone did back in the olden times. It required my waiting in the mechanic’s lobby, reading dusty copies of magazines only someone who didn’t need to take their car to a mechanic would enjoy reading. And then, after several minutes and half a wallet of cash, my automobile would be running sweet.

But what about a computer tune-up?

What a Stable Lithium Anode Means to You

Filed under: News — admin @ 10:37 am

Researchers at Stanford University are working toward creating a better battery. That process involves a lot of technology and chemistry, but in the end the result would be higher-efficiency batteries for electronics as well as other devices, including cars.

I still believe that the future of self-powered devices lies in the fuel cell. That technology has lagged for years now. I’ve written blog posts that claimed we’d have “within years,” but that’s never come to pass.

If this new lithium anode technology proves stable and cheap — and it doesn’t cause any dimensional warps between here and where monsters live — then it could prove to be a boon for the mobile technology industry.

Predicting Market Crashes with Google

Filed under: News — admin @ 7:12 pm

Apparently you can tell when the stock market is going down due to various keywords being searched on Google. At least that’s what’s being said in the article. Of course, they’re looking back at crashes. So far, humanity has yet to precisely predict market crashes, although wise investors can generally smell a crash coming.

Back When We First Wrote Web Pages

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

One of the foundations of the World Wide Web is the hyperlink, which most people today simply refer to as a link. You click on it to supposedly visit another web page. The desire would be that the web page is somehow related to or in support of the linked text. That wasn’t always how it worked.
