Facebook Year In Review In Review

If you’re using Facebook, then you’ve probably seen them: Your year in review. It’s a special Facebook app that collects and summarizes your past year in photos. It’s an automatic process and, much to Facebook’s surprise, few people are bothering to use it.

I paid a lot for my first computer. We all did back in the early days. That was a shock.

What was even more shocking was when I tried to sell my computer. After two years, I learned that my beloved, although used, TRS-80 Model III had no value.

After years of research, and a non-working prototype, Google has built a fully-functional self-driving car. It’s a lot better looking than the fashionless Google Glass, but — seriously — it’s a really wimpy looking car.

Smartphones and Emergencies

How useful is your cell phone in an emergency? That answer depends on whether or not the emergency situation has disabled the cell towers. If those towers are down — as has happened in several recent disasters — then your smartphone is a brick. The solution proposed by the Feds is to enable your phone to receive FM radio.

An Even Faster Speed?

The fees weighed heavy on my wallet. I was paying close to $200 for cable. That included my Internet, for which I was paying a speed premium. The bulk of the bill, however, went to TV — stuff that I didn’t watch.

The Instagram Rapture

In a deft move that had delightfully unintended consequences, Instagram decided to purge all the spam, all the fake accounts, all the bots, and all the nonsense from its site. The result is that some so-called “celebrities” have ended up not being as celebrated as they originally thought. Take Justin Bieber — please!
