Once Upon a Time, PCs had a Sleep Button

The new computer was a big one, a tower system. It barely fit under my desk. On the front I saw several blinking lights, one for each disk drive. It also featured several buttons and other fancy lights next to each button. I recognized the Power button, thanks it’s universal power symbol (shown above). But the other button had a crescent moon icon. What was it?

Stop Correcting My Text!

It can tick me off too: I want to type one word, but the phone changes it to another word. Sometimes this change happens because my spelling isn’t correct, but yet the replacement isn’t correct either. Other times, the change happens because the word I type is correct, but the dictionary/autocorrect feature doesn’t recognize the term. Then it “helpfully” replaces it.

Look! An email from FedEx. They tried to deliver a package, but I missed it. Never mind that they normally put a sticker on the door, this is email! I suppose I should click a link and then type in my credit card number to ensure delivery . . .

Section Break Mass Slaughter

In my Word For Dummies books, I describe how to remove a hard page break and a section break, but I don’t describe the process to eliminate all breaks from a document at once. It’s not a secret, but the process might wreck the document’s formatting.

The front-facing camera on a phone is genius. Use that camera to take a picture of yourself, but try not to look like you’re taking a picture of yourself. That’s where the genius melts away.
