Adding a Pause to a Phone Number Occasionally you'll need to insert a pause into a phone number. The pause may be required to access an outside line, or to wait for a prompt that requires you to input the rest of the number. All that can be automated, either when you type in a number or dial or when you add a number for a contact. The Pause Symbols There are two symbols you can use in a phone number to insert a pause: • The comma , is used to insert a two second delay. So the number 8,555-2345 would direct the phone to dial an 8, wait two seconds, then dial 555-2345. • The semicolon ; is used to insert a prompt. The phone number continues to dial only after you touch the Yes button on the screen, as shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 1: The Yes/No prompt produced by the semicolon When you touch the Yes button, the rest of the number shown is dialed. Adding Pauses When You Dial A Number As you type in a number to dial, press the Menu soft button to access the two second delay (comma) and prompt commands, as shown below.
Fig. 2: Options for inserting a pause as you dial a number. Choosing the Add Pause command inserts a comma into the number, which is the two-second pause. Choosing the Add Wait comman inserts a semicolon into the number, which produces the prompt shown in Fig. 1. Inserting Pauses For A Contact's Phone Number Pauses can also be inserted when you add a phone number for a contact. In that case, it's easier to insert the pauses by simply adding a comma or semicolon to the number as you type it in; use the onscreen keyboard to do so. Remember: the , adds a two second delay. The ; adds a pop-up prompt, as shown in Fig 1. |
