A great tool for jotting down notes, lists, things you don't ever want to forget like locker combinations, your shirt size, frequent flier numbers, and other notes. And don't forget that you can dictate your notes in addition to typing.

AnyCut

This app was mentioned in the book; it helps you create shortcuts not quite possible using the Android operating system alone.

App Organizer

A great app for collecting and accessing similar apps in your mobile device's repertoire. I write more about the App Organizer here.

CardStar

Lighten your wallet with CardStar. It lets you input your frequently shopper card numbers, storing them in your Android device along with the barcodes. You just flash your gizmo's touchscreen to the check-out person and you get your discount. That means no more taking along all those cards in your wallet or purse.

Compass

I don't know why I like the Compass app; the Maps app tells you where you are and how to get where you want to go. Still, there is charm in having a mobile device with a compass on it.

Dolphin Browser

A much better browser than the Browser app. It offers tabs, easy access to features, plug-ins, a handy find-on-page tool, plus many other features that make Dolphin a highly-popular alternative to the standard Android Browser.

Dolphin Browser HD

If you have a Droid X, then this is the version of the Dolphin Browser you need. A good alternative to the Browser app.

Flight Mode

This is a great little widget for instantly activating Airplane Mode, as discussed in the books.

Google Finance

Just like the Google Finance web page (which it syncs with), you'll see market news, portfolio information (if you've set it up), and get price quotes.

Jet Car Stunts Lite

Oh, yeah! Another game. This one can be tough, but it really does use the accelerometer quite well. The 3D graphics are great, and it's nice to play a car game that's more than just trying to get around the track as fast as possible. (Not recommended if you find yourself nauseated by 3D games.)

Jewels

An annoying game because its so infectious! Just try to stop playing this game, just try!

K9 Mail

This is a better email program than the Mail program included on your device. It's more compatible with a wider range of ISPs and mail servers, has more features and flexibility. When you find the Mail app limiting, this is the app you need to replace it.

Linda File Manager

A good way to manage files and get dirty with some options not available through the main Android interface.

Movies

Being a movie freak, I love this app. Information on new films, trailers, plus finding local theaters and show times.

My Bookmarks

I wrote about this utility in the book. Import your computer's bookmarks into your mobile device.

MySettings

Better than the Quick Settings app mentioned in the book, I believe you'll find MySettings a better way to control the various on-off thingies in your mobile device.

MySpace Mobile

This app is produced by the MySpace people. Not to be confused with other MySpace Mobile apps.

Pandora

As discussed in the book, a great streaming music program where you can customize what you like to listen to.

Paper Toss

A fun, addictive, and clever game.

Quick Settings

This is a one-stop utility for changing almost all the common settings on your mobile device: Ringer volume, brightness, and so on. Very handy.

RealCalc Scientific Calculator

Sure, you may not be a nerd, but every so often you need a calculator that has some advanced features. This is that calculator.

Ringdroid

A ringtone creation utility, as discussed in the book.

Screen Mode

Use this utility to control whether or not the screen dims, stays active, or behaves normally.

Skype

Whether your mobile device has Skype Mobile or not, the Skype people have introduced their official, full-on, Skype app for Android.

SportsTap

I'm not much of a sports nut, but the sports nuts in my life really like this app. It's a central location for all sports updates and news. Very handy. Excellent interface.

StreamFurious

Listen to live music broadcast around the country.

Traffic Jam Free

I enjoy playing this game, a simple, addictive puzzle game. The brilliance of this version is that it has so many combinations of the puzzle. A great time-killer and brain tease.

TV Listings

There are plenty of apps that answer the question "What's on TV now?" This app is the free version of TV Listings, which I find extremely handy — not that I watch a lot of TV, but ever since I've dropped that TV Guide subscription, I've needed something handy.

Twitter

This is the official Twitter app from the Twitter people.

Let's all sing like the birdies sing: Tweet. Tweet-tweet. Tweet-tweet.

Voice Recorder

This app makes up for the gizmo's lack of a voice-recording application. It's handy for taking notes or recording conversations.

Zedge

A great app for sharing wall papers, ringtones, and other fun things.
