Latest Information

Google Voice Voicemail
If you're using Google Voice as your Voicemail, be aware that using *72 on Verizon to forward your phone's incoming calls messes up Google Voice. (Well, at least it does on my phone.) You'll need to re-establish Google Voice on your phone: Follow the directions on the Voicemail setup screen: From the Settings app, choose Call Settings, Voicemail Settings, Voicemail Number.
Be Careful of Your Carrying Case / Holster!
Got an email from a reader who used a holster carrying case for this Droid 2. The case had a magnetic clip, which apparently zapped the touchscreen. Restarting the phone fixed the problem, but I would be leery of any carrying case or holster that uses a magnetic clip.
Synchronizing Your iTunes Music with your Droid
The steps are quite complex, but apparently it's possible to force iTunes to recognize your Droid X or Droid 2 for the purposes of synchronizing your music library. The steps are listed here, and they work as of February 2011. Do note that future releases of iTunes may render the steps invalid.
Search for Android Apps on Google
If you visit the Google home page on your Droid, click the More button at the top. From the items in the More menu you can choose Android Apps, which lets you use your web browser to locate apps for your phone. This trick works only on an Android phone. Oh, and by the way, there are now over 100,000 Android apps in the Market.

Updates

Android Market Update
The Android Market has a new look, as well as some subtle changes to how it operates as originally written in the book. Click here to read about the updates.
Facebook for Android Update
It's not a common update, but the Facebook app does change and those changes make it behave differently from what's described in the book. Click here to review the latest Facebook app update.
Gmail Update
In what is bound to be the first of many app updates mentioned here on Wambooli, the Gmail app has some new features as of January 2011. I review the most obvious feature here.
Google Maps Update
The Maps app updates quite frequently, which means that what you see on your phone may not always match what's printed in in the book. Click here to read about some of the latest features in Google Maps.
YouTube App Update
The YouTube app has a new look and feel, plus some minor changes that affect the books. See the errata (above) for details specific to your book. General information on the YouTube update is found here.

It looks like there are three options on your Droid X or Droid 2 phone for turning on and off various GPS location services. Well, actually, there are four options. Read about them all here.
Inserting pauses into a phone number
I don't cover this in the book, but it's important. Read my dispatch here to learn how to add a pause into a contact's phone number, or to insert pauses when you dial your phone.
File Management
It's an esoteric subject these days, but I've written a blog post about how you can view and potentially manipulate files on your Android gizmo. Read more here.
Working with multiple Google Calendars
In the books I mention how you can display multiple Google calendars, but I don't really describe how all that works. This blog post explains more detail.
Editing Text With the Swype Keyboard
You would think that the Swype keyboard was utterly useless for editing text. How very wrong such thinking is. The Swype keyboard has a special Text Editing mode, which is wonderful for those phones that lack a pointing device, phones like the Droid X. Read more in my blog post here.
Forwarding a Text Message
Got a question from a reader: How do you forward a text message? Good question! Here is my answer.
Organizing your Contacts into Groups
You can create groups for your contacts, organizing special people by their relation to you, which clubs or organizations you belong to, by work, and other connections. It's called Contact Groups. My blog post discusses how it works.
Keep Your Apps and Home Screen Organized with Apps Organizer
Forget folders, there is a much better way to keep your Android apps organized, and allow you to view that fancy wallpaper. Read more . . .
How to Dial Your New Rotary Phone
Here is a classic how-to film from the last century. At once time, dial phones were a new concept as well. This type of film would have been shown in classrooms as well as before motion pictures. It would not have been on TV or the Internet, as they didn't yet exist. View the YouTube video.
