Internet Explorer

It’s been a long time since Microsoft’s Internet Explorer was the planet’s number one web browser. Some people still use it. Over 20 percent of those people use versions of Internet Explorer (IE) prior to the current version. Those people are facing an ominous security risk.

Old Files on a New Computer

One of the things I dread about getting a new computer is the inevitable personality transfer. Yes, the new PC is faster and better than your old clunker (which last week was your treasure and joy). The dreadful part is how to get the files and programs you love transferred from the old computer to the new one.

All operating systems offer the ability to search for files — and inside of files. It’s a big deal, so much so that few people give it another thought. A feature worth a second thought, however, is the ability to save a search and reproduce it later.

The Floppy Disk has a New Pal

A year and a half ago I wrote about it: Adios, Optical Disc. As I predicted in that post, the optical drive is now absent from all Apple computers. They lead the way, and eventually the PC will follow suit.

Mute Your Windows 10 Notifications

To me, the notification sound in Windows 10 sounds exactly like the first chord of the Simpsons TV show. So every time the Windows 10 computer chimes a notification, I start singing, “The Simpsons . . .” It’s annoying.

Several years ago, I visited a friend of mine who showed me a unique gizmo. She was a government employee and needed access to a secure email account. The gizmo, the size of a pocket watch, was a password generator.
