I’ve never forgotten the PorchCam, a feature that’s been on this website for nearly 20 years. Well, back in the 1990s it was called the DrivewayCam. Today, it’s the PorchCam and, yes, it’s back online. The current image is shown in Figure 1.

Multiple Pages on a Single Sheet

You’re printing a draft of your Great American Novel, but you don’t want to make it look like a manuscript. No, you want it to look like it would when it comes out in print, on smaller-sized sheet of paper, but you don’t want to waste paper by printing it too small on a page.

What to do?

The solution is to use a Word feature that lets you print multiple pages on a single sheet of paper.

Funky Characters in Passwords

You have multiple user names and, hopefully, multiple passwords. The requirements for the passwords are well-known: It has to be something complex, not-obvious, and at least 8-characters long, with a smattering of upper- and lowercase letters plus numbers. Add to the mix, a symbol or two.

The New Wambooli PorchCam – Almost

The old Porchcam went down almost 18 months ago. I attempted a software update and the end result was that the camera’s Administration web page was completely inaccessible. Without any controls to access the device, I had to take it down.

Open All Those Bookmarks

Web page bookmarks are certainly handy. Even handier are bookmark toolbars and menus, which let you quickly access your bookmarks. Especially for an organized person, keeping you webpage bookmarks all neat and tidy in an ordered system of menus can save time. That is, until you misuse the Open All Bookmarks command.

Android App Permissions

Android Marshmallow lets you know which phone or tablet features an app uses right when you install the app. And if that’s not enough, the first time you use the app, it may show a permissions card, specifically letting you know which features it needs to access. This change truly adds transparency to all apps and involves you with the permissions process.

Your Windows Subscription is Due

The Windows 10 hype is long over. The annoying “Upgrade to Windows 10” campaign has died a merciful death. Now comes the future, which Microsoft has said involves frequent updates to Windows 10, but no new version numbers. That includes one scary prospect: A paid, subscription model for Windows.
