I Hang Onto This Stuff

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

I swapped printers the other day. Moved one from hither to thither. As I did, I opened the drawer where I keep printer manuals and discs. And in that drawer, I beheld a raft of old SIMMs — memory cards from computers long gone.

Here Comes Office 15!

Filed under: News — admin @ 10:28 am

I don’t know whether or not they’ll call it Office 15, but it will be closely tied into the disaster that is Windows 8. From the article:

Many of Microsoft’s corporate customers still use Windows XP. Those using the current version, Windows 7— out since 2009 and paired with Office 2010 — might decide against upgrading.

Duh.

Also there’s talk that Office 15 may work only on Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems. When did “Stupid” get inserted into the Microsoft mission statement?

Life in the Sandbox

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

Check out the article below to learn more about the infection, and to check a link that determines whether your PC is infected or not.

Cringely Claims the PC is Done

Filed under: News — admin @ 7:36 am

Specifically, he states that you’re now using your second-to-last PC ever. I disagree: The PC is a business tool, not consumer electronics. Mobile devices like tablets and smartphones are consumer devices. For most people, mobile devices will take over their computer duties. But for professionals, and in an office environment, PCs will continue to dominate for decades.

Microsoft Drops Windows 8 Upgrade Prices

Filed under: News — admin @ 3:21 pm

Like anyone would care, the price to upgrade your existing Windows XP/Vista/7 computer to the travesty that is Windows 8 has been reduced. It’s a downloadable copy, for just under $40.

As someone who has been forced to use Windows 8 (granted, a beta copy) for the past few weeks, and I tell you that I’d happily pay $40 not to use it.
