Cringely Claims the PC is Done

Specifically, he states that you’re now using your second-to-last PC ever. I disagree: The PC is a business tool, not consumer electronics. Mobile devices like tablets and smartphones are consumer devices. For most people, mobile devices will take over their computer duties. But for professionals, and in an office environment, PCs will continue to dominate for decades.

Microsoft Drops Windows 8 Upgrade Prices

Like anyone would care, the price to upgrade your existing Windows XP/Vista/7 computer to the travesty that is Windows 8 has been reduced. It’s a downloadable copy, for just under $40.

As someone who has been forced to use Windows 8 (granted, a beta copy) for the past few weeks, and I tell you that I’d happily pay $40 not to use it.

Will the Disaster Continue with Office?

I’ve done a lot of griping recently about Windows 8 and how it makes me want to gouge out my eyes with a searing hot needle. While I could go on and on about all the appalling things I’ve discovered with Windows 8, I thought I’d divert my attention to another, potentially more devastating matter: The next incarnation of Microsoft Office.

Windows 8 Down in Flames

I’ve been using Windows 8 for a while now. Let me tell you: It really sucks. I wrote before that I didn’t like it, but being forced to use Windows 8, especially under the guise of trying to write a book for beginners, is very painful.

Printers are cheap! Ink is expensive. So expensive, I don’t need to tell you. The entire Ink Refill On-The-Cheap industry proves it. Hell, printer ink is probably the most expensive liquid substance you can buy. But that’s not my topic.

Is Blogging Dead?

I blog because it’s a great way to write updates, not only just commentary but also some how-tos and additional information for my books. Writing a blog post is a handy way to do that, and much easier than writing one of my Wambooli Dispatches, which is an HTML document and requires a lot more effort and work.
