One of the keen updates to the Android operating system ICS, or “Ice Cream Sandwich,” is the ability to monitor how much data you’re using — and which apps are using that data. Just as watching battery life is important, for folks with limited data plans, monitoring the phone’s data usage is vital.

November 1, 2012Nexus 7 Sells Like HellApparently the Nexus 7 tablet has some good sales figures, up to one million units a month. I don’t know whether that makes it the second-most popular tablet after the iPad or not. That’s because Samsung doesn’t release sales figures, so I don’t know where the Galaxy Tab sits. But one million units a month isn’t bad.

October 31, 2012Boo!I don’t remember Halloween being such a big holiday when I was a kid. There were pumpkins — jack-o’-lanterns, actually — and maybe a skeleton on a string or cardboard cutout witch. But today? Massive displays on yards. Halloween lights? People go all out. It’s the scary season, where blood and gore and death are pretty much acceptable. Where bank tellers and school teachers dress like hookers and get away with it. Everything is done in the name of fun, and maybe for a good scare. But what about when your computer participates in the “fun”?

October 29, 2012Cellular Nexus 7 and the Nexus 10 are HereToday Google introduced an updated version of the Nexus 7 tablet. The new version has cellular data access, though it’s sold “unlocked.” That means you have to find a cellular provider to give you access. A 32GB model was also introduced. The Nexus 10 looks like it’s going to be one hell of a tablet. It’s not cellular, but it has an über-high-resolution display, 300 ppi. That compares with the iPad’s 264 ppi. Golly!
