More Hate Mail

Hate Mail

Back in the old days, I received what I dub “hate mail.” It’s where someone sends me an email question and I attempt to answer it, only to be met with scorn and derision.

Most of my email is positive, and people are generally grateful for a reply, even when I may not completely answer their question. Yet, some people respond to my efforts with angry and spite. For them, I dedicate their hateful mail here on Wambooli.

Now, after what seems like a long dry spell, I once again am blessed with bitter, angry reader who I try vainly to help, only to be met with, well, hate mail.

Here’s the initial query:

I bought your Dummie Book and I am trying to configure the server delete option; however, my DELL Tablet does NOT have an Action Bar Menu, or a triangle in the lower right corner and does NOT have an option to Delete E-mail from Server item soooooo how else am I going to do this?

Thanks!

I believe in the sun when it doesn’t shine, and I believe in God when he is silent.

The things that came to my mind were, first, that she (I’m assuming) wrote Dummie Book, so she’s not paying attention really hard. Second, I see the religious quote at the end of the message. Sometimes that means the person is a fair minded, forgiving, and gentle Christian, but let me be not too hasty to judge.

My reply:

Which email app are you using?

As far as I know, the Email app by default does not delete email from the server. If that’s what you want, you’re good.

Most people would be done at this point. In my mind, her concern has been addressed. I wouldn’t even expect a reply, but in this case I had my suspicions. And, indeed, here’s her reply:

I use Microsoft Outlook e-mail. You really have NOT answered my question below.

And, of course, she failed to answer my question, which would help me answer her question. So my next clue is that she really, really isn’t paying attention to anything.

Here’s my reply, where I make a futile attempt to reason with her:

Please understand that I am under no obligation to help you and that I find your message below to be quite demanding. That’s not necessary.

Which email app do you use on your phone, Email or Gmail? Or are you using the Microsoft Office Outlook app? My book does not cover that app, but even if you are using it, there’s no need to mess with the Delete on Server option as Outlook coordinates your email automatically.

If you’re using the updated Email app, then it lacks an Action Bar or Triangle. Look for the three dots, Or display the Navigation Drawer and look for a Settings item there. I can’t be more specific until I know which app you’re using.

I think I’m being more than kind. In fact, many authors wouldn’t have even replied. The fact that she failed to answer my question really means that she’s seriously not worth any effort.

It took a week, but here’s her final “shut the door in your face” reply to me:

Well, I won’t wait for an answer from you about anything!!! DELL resolved my problem. In the future, I will purchase books by Andy Rathbone, like the one I just did for Win 10. He responds to e-mails f-a-s-t and politely!

Oh, poor Andy!
