Nexus 7 R.I.P.

It’s been a good run, dating back to 2013, but the Nexus 7 tablet has been officially discontinued by Google.

I had the opportunity to write several books on the Nexus 7 tablet, and they all sold remarkably well. My final foray into the Nexus 7 is my current, self-published book, Dan Gookin’s Nexus 7 A to Z, which is available only at the Amazon Kindle store. (Cheap!) I wrote that title to cover the Android Lollipop update, which really changed a lot of things about how the tablet was used.

The current stock of the Nexus 7 will be sold out; they’re still available, but who knows for how long? The Nexus 9 continues to be the sold, being the only official Google tablet.

I’ve heard no word on whether Google has any other Nexus tablets coming out or whether they’re just not going to do small format tablets in the future. It wouldn’t surprise me if a new Nexus 7 tablet came out soon or, perhaps, something equivalent.
