Airline’s Wireless Fees: $1,171.46

I’ve dabbled with in-flight Wi-Fi before. On a 4-hour, cross-country haul I forked over $10 (or something around there) so that I could enjoy the Internet aloft. Many airlines offer this service, but apparently there are some surcharges with some airlines that you really need to look out for!

According to the article, the $1,171.46 charges were for many page views, which the victim claims were just email. Okay. But he also claims to have uploaded a 4MB PowerPoint presentation.

Couldn’t that have waited?

Regardless, check those fees! Read the wee li’l card in the seatback pocket in front of you. Weigh whether your email is that important that you’re willing to fork over what’s effectively a years’ worth of Internet charges during one intercontinental flight. I mean, sheesh!

  1. I tend regard flying as a chance to read dead wood & sleep! Online Wi-Fi is just asking people to email you and ask awkward questions you could answer if you had everything you need.

  2. I don’t recall doing anything significant the one time I paid for for in-flight Wi-Fi. You can pre-load web pages, email, even movies.
