  2. I think a lot of people do these kinds of hacks just to see whether or not it could be done.

    For one of my early books, I described how to load up Windows on a RAM Drive (remember those?). When done properly, WIndows would load in only about 2 seconds. That was pretty miraculous back then, but the hardware requirements and technical expertise required to set up that configuration were pretty intense.

    Years earlier, I remember someone in our magazine’s office trying to use Excel on an 8088 DOS computer. Excel’s minimum requirements were an 80386 running Windows, of course. But he wanted to see if it would work. It did, but the program took four hours to load and was pretty useless after that.

    When computer nerds have too much time on their hands, odd things happen.

  3. I suppose so, I have done my share “I wonder if”‘s pretty cool though! Little spare time to play now!
